It is mined in conditions of armed conflict, human rights abuses, child labor, sexual violence, and murder from specific power group in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and areas close by it. The profits from the sale of these minerals finance continued fighting in the Second Congo War, and control of lucrative mines becomes a focus of the fighting as well.
Many international companies extract these conflict minerals and have been blamed.
These days, there are a lot of efforts and pressure not to use conflict minerals all over the world as a fact of regulations such as Financial Reform in the US.
